Hollywood Stars Team Up For Cancer Awareness

Celebrating 10-Year Anniversary of Lee National Denim Day

Hollywood, CA - Actress Yeniffer Behrens and Desperate Housewives star Ricardo Antonio Chavira team up to raise awareness of breast cancer on the 10-year anniversary of Lee National Denim Day® and share the premiere screening of their short film Late Bloomer at the Ivar Theatre in Hollywood.

Behrens and Chavira share a connection to the cause: Chavira lost his mother to breast cancer when he was just a teenager. Behrens’s aunt was more fortunate to be a breast cancer survivor due to research and the advances that have been made. Their experiences with the disease are different, but the pain breast cancer inflicted on their families is the same. Ricardo Chavira is the co-spokesperson for Lee National Denim Day along with his Desperate Housewives co-star, James Denton.

By partnering with Lee Jeans and the Komen Foundation, Behrens and Chavira hope to spread the important messages of education and early detection so lives can be saved. “Breast cancer strikes a cultural bone with me. Many in the Latino community avoid discussing this topic,” Chavira said. “I hope that hearing from me, a Latino man who lost his mother to breast cancer, will encourage others to take care of the women in their lives.”

Behrens (Angel Blue, Nip/Tuck, Boston Legal and the upcoming Virginia) and Chavira of the hit television show Desperate Housewives, have joined forces to help commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Lee National Denim Day, a program that has raised $52 million for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Behrens and Chavira are calling on Hollywood to join them 7:30pm Oct. 7 at the Ivar Theater (1604 N. Ivar Ave., Hollywood, 90028) for the premiere screening of their short film titled Late Bloomer and encouraging everyone to wear denim and donating to the cause.

Late Bloomer, directed by Deborah Franco, is the short film about a young track & field star (Behrens) that is rendered comatose after a car crash during the prime of her youth. When she awakens several years later, she finds that much of her life has changed during her coma, including her fiancé portrayed by Chavira.

Through individual donations of $5 and up, Lee Jeans, Behrens and Chavira hope to raise $50,000 for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs. One hundred percent of every dollar raised through Lee National Denim Day goes directly to the Komen Foundation for initiatives that might otherwise go unfunded.
